With two weeks remaining, the countdown has begun for closure of the registration in the King Abdul Aziz and his Companions Foundation for the Gifted and Creativity, or “Mawhiba’s” summer international programs in 2014.
Applicants wishing to enrolL for the program can apply until Sept. 5 online, according to Mawhiba’s website. It encourages students in the second year high school’s department of scientific studies to participate in the international programs to hone their talent and develop their abilities.
Mawhiba is seeking to expand its international programs and increase the number of beneficiaries to the quality of the programs offered. The programs will help upgradie the level of training and qualification program executive teams, the design of an integrated plan for evaluation and application of standards and international quality standards.
Recently, as many as 12,118 students out of 65,000 have been accepted as part of a national project to identify gifted students in the Kingdom.
The third phase of the national project has covered more than 12,000 promising students. They were nominated by their teachers from various schools, including government, private and international schools in addition to Qur’an memorization schools.
According to the chairman of the Executive Committee of the project, Adel Qaeed, the number of candidates for this year has reached 65,000 students, out of which 40,500 had to undergo the evaluation test for the intermediate grade in the first stage followed by the primary stage. In the final analysis, 12,118 students were accepted.
Prospective candidates are required to take tests online in English language competencies (STEP) for evaluation of mental capabilities conducted by the National Center for Measurement and Evaluation at Higher Education (measure). The seats are limited and registration deadline for the said tests is Sept. 13.
The statement said that this year’s program will be taking place in the US, Britain, Canada, Ireland and Malaysia, in partnership with some of the finest universities in the world, including: MIT, Johns Hopkins, Oxford, Cambridge, Boston, Yale, Brown, Dublin, Berkeley, Stanford and Cornell.
The program is divided into two: full residency programs and distance learning programs. They vary between areas of research, academic, technical and preparation programs for the University.
The programs aim to prepare students that would support turning the Kingdom into a knowledge-based society by helping them discover the areas of academic and scientific mission.
