Title favorite Cristal Global came within a point of the perfect 40 on the way to its second Team of the Week award in a big move during the seventh session in the FTBJ-ICBL Novarino Inter-Company Bowling League 32nd Conference at Jeddah Lanes here.
The champion in the last conference then under the banner of Nasser Al Hajri, Cristal Global actually enjoyed a double on the day courtesy of GCC Bowling Tour ladies Masters first runner-up Merlen Pamintuan, who emerged Bowler of the Week on the distaff side with a 684.
No team came close to Cristal’s tally of 39 points with JM Derby 11 points adrift on 28 points. Four points further back were Jeddah Lanes, Falcon and Lance & 3rdy which tied on 24 points.
League leader Alanson had a modest score of 23 points and saw its lead over closest pursuer Cristal drastically cut from 18.5 to 2.5. Paolo Allego though gave Alanson some consolation when he claimed the men’s Bowler of the Week plum by shooting the high series of 633 on scratch lines of 191, 214 and 204.
Hidada compiled 19 points, while Jem Strikers, D’ Barkads and Sky Freight-TFC were the last three teams to check in on 15, 13 and 11.
Cristal could have posted the league’s first perfect score of 40 had D’ Barkads not overtook them for first place in the first game. Still the performance delivered the message Cristal is definitely a legitimate title contender with a lineup from last conference’s champion team practically intact.
