The Indian Consulate will issue token numbers to Indian nationals with a valid passport or iqama and who have registered with the consulate for fingerprinting and final exit stamping at the deportation center (Tarheel). This process will end on Sunday, Sept. 22, according to Dr. Irshad Ahmad, consul for information and culture. The consulate will not issue any token number after that date.
Ahmad said that holders of token numbers — I Series: 2501 to 2750; N Series: 2501 to 3500, and U Series: 1801 to 2000) — may approach the Tarheel on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 a.m. He said that if they failed to avail of this opportunity, they would have to take a new token number and do the procedures at the Tarheel again.
In a related development, Ambassador Hamid Ali Rao said that since the grace period began, 359,997 Indians had transferred their services, 355,035 had changed their job titles and 466,689 had renewed their licenses.
“So far, we have been approached by 88,737 persons for emergency certificates (ECs), while 5,956 have collected their Huroob passports from the embassy and 2,091 have renewed their old emergency certificates,” he said, adding, “The number of Indians who received final exit visas is also impressive, though there is still more work to be done on this.”
Rao thanked Custodian of Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah for announcing the grace period in April 2013 and then extending it further till Nov. 3, 2013.
He said that for many Indians overstaying in Saudi Arabia this was a dream come true.
“Many of our fellow Indians have been able to utilize the concessions announced by the ministries of labor and interior,” he said.
He said that by the end of the grace period all Indians in the Kingdom would be legal. He thanked the volunteers and the staff and said that he looked forward to their continued support and participation.
“We need to go to the small cities, towns and villages of this large country to spread the message of the grace period. We don’t have much time left. Our officers are ready to travel with you. We will continue to deal with each case you bring to our notice and take it up with the concerned authorities.”
Rao urged those who have not availed the concessions to come forward. “This is our last chance to correct our status or to leave the country without facing penal action. We cannot expect another extension. We have very little time. Please come forward. We are ready to help you. Please do not hide hoping for another extension of the grace period. We will do our best to solve your problems,” he said.
