Tsonga wins in return from injury

METZ, France: Defending champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga made a winning return to tennis on Wednesday, beating fellow Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals of the Moselle Open.
Sam Querrey of the United States and Tobias Kamke of Germany also advanced to the last eight.
Tsonga was playing his first match since a troublesome left knee injury forced him to retire in the second round at Wimbledon and then pull out of the U.S. Open.
The top-seeded Frenchman, who split with Australian coach Roger Rasheed last month, broke serve once in each set.
Tsonga will now meet Kamke, who rallied from a set and a break down to see off Hungarian qualifier Marton Fucsovics 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Kamke broke back at 3-2 in the second set and capitalized on four double faults from Fucsovics in the final set to win the last five games.
The sixth-seeded Querrey led 6-2 when his opponent, French wild card Paul-Henri Mathieu, retired because of a right thigh injury.
The American broke Mathieu twice and served an ace to take the first set. Querrey will play another Frenchman in the next round, either second-seeded Gilles Simon or Kenny De Schepper.
Carlos Berlocq of Argentina and Frenchmen Nicolas Mahut and Albano Olivetti advanced to the second round with straight-set wins.
Berlocq, who won the Swedish Open in July, did not face any break points in his 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic, while Mahut beat Leonardo Mayer of Argentina 7-6 (2), 6-4. Wild card Olivetti defeated 2010 runner-up Mischa Zverev of Germany 7-5, 7-6 (3).

Schiavone through in Seoul as seeds tumble
In Seoul, former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone fought her way into the WTA Korea Open quarterfinals as tournament seeds tumbled on Wednesday.
The unseeded Italian, 33, seeking her second title of the year, overcame France's Virginie Razzano in three sets 7-6 (7/5), 3-6, 6-3 to reach the last eight for the first time since June.
Russian third seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova eased past Korean wildcard Lee Ye-Ra 6-4, 6-1, but German seeds Julia Goerges and Annika Beck both fell by the wayside.
Sixth-seeded Goerges, the world number 49, capitulated 6-4, 6-0 to Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu, while Russian Vera Dushevina ousted eighth seed Beck 6-3, 7-5.

Guangzhou champion falls in 2nd round
In Guangzhou, China, reigning Guangzhou Open champion Hsieh Su-Wei of Taiwan failed to make the quarterfinals at this year's event, crashing out Wednesday to her unseeded opponent.
But it was a successful night for Britain with Laura Robson and Johanna Konta beating Chinese opposition to make it through to the last eight.
Sixth-seeded Hsieh lost her second-round match against China's Zhang Shuai 6-2, 6-2 in little over one hour 15 minutes.
Hsieh's disappointing exit follows a golden year for the world number 42, who was crowned women's doubles Wimbledon champion earlier this year.
She remains in the doubles competition in Guangzhou, where she is the top seed with her partner, China's Peng Shuai.
Peng will also play no further part in the singles competition after the fourth seed was well beaten by British number three Konta, who claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Third-seeded Robson booked her place in the quarters with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 (7/4) victory over China's Zheng Saisai.
France's Alize Cornet beat Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic in her second-round match after an early scare.
The No. 2 seed was taken to a tiebreak in the first set, but won it 7/4 before dominating the second set and taking it to love.
Cornet will play Yvonne Meusburger next following the Austrian's 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Serbia's Vesna Dolonc.
Also through to the quarterfinals are China's Zheng Jie, who claimed victory over Hungary's Timea Babos 7-5, 7-6 (7/1), and Vania King of the US, who won her clash with Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski 6-4, 0-6, 6-4.
Eighth seed Monica Puig overcame Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-2.
