Battleship fire leaves none injured

A fire on one of the battleships of the Company Battleships International Desalination Ltd. in Yanbu was extinguished Monday, causing no injuries. The vessel produces 20,000 cubic meters of desalinated water a day.
The spokesman of the General Organization for Ports, Mussaid Al-Darees, said that the safety and fire-fighting division at the desalination stations in Yanbu and Madinah extinguished the fire with the help and support of the company and Civil Defense teams. The fire partially broke out two days ago in the early evening on the floating barge, but no injuries were recorded and water supplies to Madinah were not affected.
“Teams were fighting the fire from the sea. They created defensive fortification for the other teams and this helped in quickly extinguishing the fire,” said Al-Darees
He explained that other ships in the industrial port moved once the distress call was received. “Radwa 1 and 2 moved toward the battleship that was laying at 20 nautical miles away in the sea.”
The fire broke out in the offices of the barge, but teams there could not put it out due to bad weather conditions.
Abdul Aziz Al-Mazroui, a spokesman of the General Organization for Water Desalination, said that water supplies to Madinah were not affected by the incident, as the strategic storage of desalinated water compensated the shortages in supplies. “The fire was completely extinguished before midnight,” he added.
The company is in the process of inspecting the location and making repairs as soon as possible.
