The UAE-based RAK Airways, which has reported 40 percent growth in terms of passenger loads during the first quarter of this year, will launch flights from Riyadh on Wednesday.
It will operate four flights a week from Riyadh, said Azzam Omar Al-Mofadda, CEO of Amikan Travel and Tours.
The carrier will be flying to nine destinations via Ras Al-Khamiah in the UAE. They are Calicut, Lahore, Peshawar, Islamabad, Dhaka, Chittagong, Katmandu, Amman, Cairo and Doha.
Al-Mofadda gave an overview of RAK Airways operations and spoke about the business agreement with Amikan Travel, which holds the GSA of RAK Airways in Saudi Arabia.
Mirza Majeed Baig, Amikan’s manager for GSA and airline affairs, was also present.
Spelling out the details of the new flights to/from Riyadh, Al-Mofadda, who holds a postgraduate degree in finance from an American university, said the service to Riyadh comes nearly three years after the airline made its first entry into the Kingdom.
“Riyadh will be the 12th destination for the airline,” said the Amikan chief, adding that the frequency of flights can be increased in future.
“Proposed routes in the pipeline are Russia, Cochin, Trivandrum and 40 more destinations in next three to five years,” said Baig, while speaking on the occasion of the inaugural RAK Airways flight.
Baig said: “I am really very excited with RAK Airways and Amikan joining forces to launch flight from Riyadh…I am sure we will make this service on the route successful.”
Baig said RAK Airways will be providing full hot meals on board and as well to all passengers in transit with a complementary transportation on request to passenger traveling to Dubai, Ajman and Sharjah.
With the lowest market fare of SR245 for one way and SR445 for return passengers, RAK Airways hopes to serve passengers of all income groups.
He said Saudi Arabia is a major contributor to the UAE’s tourism market. It is with great joy that RAK Airways is flying into Riyadh from Ras Al-Khaimah, the northern emirate of the UAE.
He said RAK Airways had teamed up with Amikan Travel & Tours, which has emerged as a leading travel agency with 42 outlets in Riyadh.
Of late, RAK Airways has reached new milestones and the passenger numbers total 300,000 in 2012 and in the first quarter of 2013, the numbers have jumped by 40 percent.
With the addition of the two new routes, RAK Airways will fly to a total of 11 destinations as part of expansion plans to fly to 40 by 2015.
