Riyadh Mayor Abdullah Al-Muqbil said the capital’s streets are in major need of revamping. “Electronic vehicles will gauge street performance and determine when streets are in need of maintenance,” he said.
The municipality has a schedule in place for maintenance.
The process will include implementing projects to dispose of rain and floodwater to avoid floods such as the ones that occurred recently, he said.
The mayor made the comments during the 11th Real Estate Forum, which was held at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
A number of participants blamed municipalities for obstructing development projects that were offered by global engineering offices.
They said large real estate projects in Saudi Arabia are rare in comparison with neighboring countries because municipalities delay these projects instead of promoting them.
