CBSE exam schedule puts students in a fix

Some hundreds of Indian students from the Indian state of Kerala who are studying in various schools in the Kingdom are facing a dilemma. Aspirants to undergraduate professional courses are grappling with a “date” problem.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has rescheduled the exam dates of some of the subjects for Class 12 examination as these were clashing with the election dates in India, but the change will cause loss of one academic year for the students for no fault of theirs.
The Class 12 exams to be held on April 9, 10, 12 and April 17 will now be held on April 25, 21, 19 and April 22, according to a circular issued by CBSE’s Controller of Examination M.C. Sharma, which states that the examination schedule has been revised.
However, the problem arises as Kerala state government’s common entrance examination for engineering and medical graduation courses, known as KEAM Entrance Exam, is also scheduled to be conducted on April 21, 22 and April 23.
The clash of dates leaves the students with no choice but to forego appearing for KEAM and lose one full academic year.
“I have been preparing for KEAM exams for a year now, and was ready to travel for taking the exam after finishing my CBSE Class 12 exams, but due to the change in examination schedule by the CBSE, I simply can’t go without completing my Class 12 paper,” said one of the students. She urged Kerala government to reschedule the KEAM exam so that thousands of students from the Gulf region can take the exam.
“To study for graduation, I must qualify in Class 12 by writing all subjects. If I lose one subject, how I can fulfill the required criteria?” asked another student. He said election dates have messed up the whole schedule of exams here in Gulf countries and in India.
One parent said: “After careful planning I had booked flight tickets for my children to take entrance exam after completing their Class 12 final exams here but changes in exam dates have forced me to shell out extra money for the re-booking of flights.”
According to sources, a similar problem is facing students from Uttar Pradesh.
