It is very sad that the international community remains silent over the Israeli atrocities committed against the Palestinians. I am surprised over the lukewarm response of the world in the wake of murders of innocent Palestinians. After the alleged kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenage settlers, top Israeli officials had pledged to avenge the deaths. How could they accuse any individual or group without incriminating evidence? That was unfair and provided Israeli right-wing forces with an opportunity to spit venom against Arabs and to kill Palestinians in cold blood.
The United Nations should take some action against Israeli crimes. What exactly is the role of the UN? It is following in the footsteps of its predecessor the League of Nations. The UN is nothing but a tool in the hands of a few powerful nations. If we study the overall structure of the UN, it will dawn on us that despite tall claims about democracy, the UN is one of the most undemocratic institutions of the world. In the UN, the majority is at the mercy of a chosen few who decide the fate of others. That is unfair and it is mainly due to this major discrepancy, the UN has been reduced to a toothless body with no role to offer. — Shahnawaz, Dammam
