TUCSON, Arizona: Mark Lyons scored 17 points, Grant Jerrett added 15 and No. 4 Arizona showed no signs of a letdown after its biggest win of the season, rolling over Oral Roberts 89-64 Tuesday night.
Arizona (9-0) pulled off an improbable victory over then-No. 5 Florida on Saturday and leaves for a tournament in Hawaii on Thursday. The Wildcats had no trouble keeping their focus, racing out to a 17-point first-half lead and shooting 57 percent overall.
Brandon Ashley added 14 points for Arizona, off to its best start since opening 12-0 in 1987-88.
Oral Roberts (5-5) has a history of knocking off power programs, but never had a shot against the rolling Wildcats.
The Golden Eagles shot 38 percent and leading scorer Warren Niles was frustrated most of the night, turning it over eight times and scoring most of his 22 points after the game was out of reach.
Purdue 66 Ball State 56: In West Lafayette, Indiana, A.J. Hammons scored 15 points to help Purdue defeat Ball State.
Terone Johnson scored 14 points, D.J. Byrd and Ronnie Johnson scored 11 each and Jacob Lawson added six points and 11 rebounds for the Boilermakers (5-6). Purdue had lost two straight and was coming off an 81-68 loss to Notre Dame.
Purdue struggled to shake the Cardinals, but a late run put the game away. A loss would have guaranteed the Boilermakers a losing nonconference record.
Jesse Berry scored 22 points and Marcus Posley added 12 for the Cardinals (5-5).
Purdue led 27-21 at halftime despite making just 11 of 31 shots in the first half. The Boilermakers made 12 of 21 after the break. Purdue held Ball State to 35 percent shooting and forced the Cardinals into 17 turnovers.
Ball State’s other game against a Big Ten opponent was a 101-53 loss to Indiana.
Kansas State 78 Texas Southern 69: In Manhattan, Kansas, Rodney McGruder scored 26 points and Thomas Gipson added 14 points and 12 rebounds as Kansas State defeated Texas Southern.
The Wildcats (8-2) could never shake the Tigers (1-10), who trailed by just six points with 1:13 remaining. But four free throws in the final 35 seconds protected Kansas State’s lead.
Ray Penn had 24 points for Texas Southern, and Omar Strong and Madarious Gibbs added 13 points each.
A 7-0 run by the Wildcats — five of the points were by McGruder — gave them a 46-36 lead with 15:03 remaining. It was the first double-digit advantage of the game.
The lead grew to 53-38 with 12 minutes to play. But Texas Southern went on a 10-2 spurt that included 3-pointers by Penn and Gibbs.
With 7:40 left, Texas Southern trailed 55-48 and hung in until the final minute.
Evansville 103 Oakland City 69: In Evansville,Indiana, DJ Balentine scored 17 points and Evansville never trailed Tuesday night in defeating Division II Oakland City.
Ned Cox and Ryan Sawvell scored 16 points apiece for the Purple Aces (7-4).
Lewis Jones added 11 points for Evansville. Eleven players scored for the Aces, who led 48-29 at halftime. They shot 54 percent from the field and outrebounded Oakland City 47-26.
Auburn 81 Tennessee Tech 62: In Auburn, Alabama, Jordan Price scored 12 points and pulled within distance of threatening the NCAA record for consecutive made 3-pointers as Auburn defeated Tennessee Tech 81-62 on Tuesday night.
The victory pulled Auburn (5-5) to .500 for the first time since a one-point loss Nov. 21 at Boston College. Tennessee Tech (6-5) has lost two of its past three games.
Price was 3 for 3 from behind the arc, making him 11 for 11 in his past three games. Each of his 3-pointers came in the first half, and he committed a technical foul for taunting after the last. The freshman was quickly benched, but he returned shortly.
The NCAA record for consecutive made 3-pointers is 15, set by Northwestern’s Todd Leslie in 1990.
Omaha 74 Benedictine (Kansas) 70: In Omaha, Nebraska, Justin Simmons scored a season-high 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, helping Nebraska-Omaha hold off NAIA program Benedictine for victory.
Simmons, who scored 36 points in a game last season for Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas, also assisted on Caleb Steffensmeier’s only basket of the game, a 3-pointer with 1:59 left that put the Mavericks (3-10) ahead for good, 70-68 — UNO’s first lead of the second half. Simmons added a layup and two free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.
John Karhoff chipped in 17 points off the bench for UNO, and CJ Carter scored 10. The game was the Mavericks’ first at home since a 96-86 loss to Saint Mary on Nov. 11, and UNO was 1-9 on the road since then.
Western Illinois 70 Illinois-Chicago 54: In Macomb, Illinois, Terrell Parks had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Ceola Clark added 14 points and eight assists to lead Western Illinois to a 70-54 victory against Illinois-Chicago.
Jack Houpt scored 12 points for the Leathernecks (8-3), who took permanent control with a 12-0 run over a 4:17 stretch in the second half.
Joey Miller had 15 points and Josh Crittle 14 for the Flames (9-2), whose eight-game winning streak was snapped.
Five points by Parks and a 3-pointer by Ceola highlighted the 12 consecutive points Western Illinois used to pull away. Illinois-Chicago trailed by just two points before going scoreless in a stretch of 6:24 in which it went 0 for 5 from the floor with two turnovers.
Alabama A&M 59 Missouri State 47: In Huntsville, Alabama, Demarquelle Tabb posted 16 points and 14 rebounds and Alabama A&M handed Missouri State its seventh straight loss, beating the Bears 59-47.
Jeremy Crutcher had 12 points, Brandon Ellis came off the bench for 10 and Justan Banks pulled down 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who snapped a four-game losing streak.
Alabama A&M (3-6) trailed 25-24 at intermission but used a 17-4 run over the first 5:15 of the second half to jump ahead 41-29. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 58-43 behind a Tabb layup with 2:07 left to play.
The Bulldogs held a 39-23 rebounding advantage and dished out 15 assists compared to just eight for Missouri State.
Alabama A&M committed a season-low eight turnovers.
Marshall Marcus led Missouri State (2-9) with 16 points but was the long Bear in double figures. The 6-foot-3 freshman has hit double-figures in six games this season.
