Polish Embassy to screen award-winning film

RIYADH: The Polish Embassy will organize on March 16 a screening of “Bogowie,” a Polish feature film that won the Golden Lions Award at the 39th Gdynia film festival in 2014.
The drama, directed by Lukasz Palkowski, will be screened in the Diplomatic Quarters in Riyadh.
“The film is a biopic about a famous Polish cardiac surgeon Professor Zbigniew Religa, who performed the first successful heart transplant in Poland in the 1980s,” said a pre-screening poster released by the embassy on Sunday.
The embassy has invited guests to register in advance to view the film as seats are limited.
Set in the 1980s, the film is based on the true story of Religa, who was health minister from 2005 to 2007.
The film is a tribute to Religa, who changed the rules in Poland governing and regulating the health system at the time.
By removing a heart from a human body, Religa broke a moral, cultural and religious taboo at the time, as decades ago a heart transplant was commonly perceived as an act against nature.
