Saudi Green Building Forum’s (SGBF) saaf has been granted the special consultative status within the UN.
saaf is a global trademark, third-body labeling system for people, products and projects that are friendly to human health, safety and the environment.
A congratulatory letter issued on Aug. 7 outlined the approval from the coordination and management meeting held in July.
The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) adopted the recommendation of the committee on non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Faisal Alfadl, secretary-general of SGBF, said: “The status is a great leap into the future for the green building movement. The consultative appointment of SGBF allows members to engage with the UN Secretariat programs and for key speakers to participate by presenting important pressing matters within their field of competence.
“Now, we will join the ECOSOC efforts for all the goals that matter to our mission, our voice and your voice will bring about change and good for the humanity and environment.”
There are five organizations in the Kingdom, including the National Society for Human Rights that have been approved by the UN ECOSOC.
The Saudi Green Building Forum is a professional civil society organization, a membership-based NGO focusing on green building practice and culture in assisting the development of a comprehensive collection of guiding systems and standards powered by four strategic pillars: conference, education, projects, and marketplace.
