JEDDAH: Top Turkish actress Tuba Büyüküstü has quashed all rumors that suggested she was failing as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and was about to be replaced, by recently visiting refugee camps in Kilis, Turkey.
Sayidaty reported photos of Büyüküstü’s recent visit circulated in Turkish media, which had previously accused the actress of neglecting her duties as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since she started shooting her latest drama series, “Cesur ve Güzel” (Brave and Beautiful), with Turkish actor Kıvanç Tatlitug.
It was also suggested that Büyüküstü was busy with her personal affairs, which include her divorce from Turkish actor Onur Saylak, who is the father of her twin daughters, and her plans to marry Turkish businessman Umut Evirgen in Italy in January 2018.
However, as soon as Büyüküstü was back in Istanbul after her trip to Los Angeles, where she was a jury member at the International Asian Film Festival, and where she met with UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie to discuss the rights of refugee children around the world, she visited Syrian refugee camps in the Turkish city of Kilis as the official UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
On this visit, Büyüküstü was accompanied by the head of the EU delegation to Turkey, Christian Berger. She launched a new classroom for Syrian refugee children, played with them, read a story and chatted with them for a while.
She said she hoped the war in Syria would end soon and stated she was keen to ensure refugee children around the world receive their full rights.
The Turkish press had been speculating that Turkish actress Serenay Sarıkaya would soon replace Büyüküstü as the new goodwill ambassador.
