NANTES: Groups of young people clashed with police in the western French city of Nantes on Tuesday night after a man was shot dead by an officer during a police check.
Car were burned and a shopping center partly set alight in the Breil neighborhood as police confronted young people, some armed with molotov cocktails.
The circumstances in which the man, in his twenties, was killed are being investigated by the police.
According to police sources, he was wounded during a police check while in a vehicle after he “refused to comply” with police requests.

According to Sennes, the situation in the Breil district on Tuesday night was “very agitated” and “very confusing.”
