ISLAMABAD: Dismissing reports by certain media organizations in Pakistan that Yemen was at war with Saudi Arabia, the country’s embassy in Islamabad refuted the claims on Friday, while thanking the Kingdom for safeguarding its people against the Houthi militia.
A statement released by the Yemeni embassy expressed surprise at some media outlets depicting the ongoing situation “as a war between Yemen and Saudi Arabia,” warning that such “grave mistakes misinform the public” and result in “wrong conclusions and biased stances.”
It added that the “Iran-backed militia” had “seized state institutions and confiscated public wealth to support their sectarian project and violated the rights of Yemeni people.”
In fact, the government requested assistance from Saudi Arabia and other friendly countries to reverse the coup d’état, even as Yemeni President Mansur Hadi’s administration continues its efforts to end the conflict in a peaceful manner, the statement read.
“The coalition, led by brotherly Saudi Arabia, continues to exert tremendous efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people by all available means including humanitarian assistance and development projects. The embassy calls on media outlets to verify news reports and not fall under misleading sources which have mischievous agendas,” it concluded.
The war in Yemen came up for discussion in Pakistan recently following Prime Minister Imran Khan’s comments wherein he said --- after concluding his recent visit to Saudi Arabia — that his administration would mediate among warring factions to bring an end to the conflict.
