Organization of Islamic Cooperation chief calls for urgent support to Syrian refugees

BRUSSELS: The head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called for urgent international action to address the plight of Syrian refugees and displaced people.
The OIC’s secretary-general, Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, has issued a plea for financial help to bridge a funding gap in humanitarian aid for the millions left homeless by the long-running conflict in Syria.
In a key address before the Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region, being held in Brussels, Al-Othaimeen urged the international community to stump up extra funding to tackle one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world. The eight-year war in Syria has claimed around half-a-million lives since March 2011.

Prince Khalid bin Salman meets top US military commander in Middle East

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman met with America’s top military commander in the Middle East on Tuesday.

Prince Khalid and Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, commander of US Central Command, discussed cooperation between the two countries “particularly in the defense field, and the importance of strengthening security and military cooperation,” Saudi Press Agency reported.

They also discussed the latest developments in the region and the “joint efforts made towards them to serves international peace and security.”
