RIYADH: The Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC) has stressed the importance of expediting the approval of a system for rights of the elderly.

The call came after the HRC visited social care homes for the elderly, with the commission stressing the need to address the conditions of buildings that do not provide the proper atmosphere for the elderly.

Social welfare homes provide integrated care for citizens who are unable to work or take care of themselves due to old age and the lack of family support.

It called for preparing buildings with specifications that are closer to the home environment so inhabitants feel more comfortable and have access to psychological and community support programs.

The HRC called for the Ministry of Health to provide specialized medical care by providing adequate Arabic-speaking medical and nursing cadres. It also demanded that the ministry prioritized personal hygiene, as many patients lack proper hygiene awareness.
