RIYADH: Saudi authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 5 million amphetamine pills into the Kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.
Capt. Mohammed bin Khaled Al-Najidi, a spokesperson for the General Directorate for Narcotics Control, said security officials monitoring criminal networks, in coordination with the General Customs Authority at Jeddah Islamic Port, discovered 5,200,000 pills hidden in an orange shipment.
Al-Najidi said that four people involved in the attempt to smuggle the pills in Arar have been arrested, including two Saudi citizens, a resident and a Syrian national.
He said that preliminary legal measures were taken against the group and that they have been referred to the Public Prosecution.
Al-Najidi urged people to call 995 to report any drug activity in the Kingdom.
