6 regional films to screen at London Film Festival

The BFI London Film Festival is set to kick off on Oct. 6 and will feature a number of regional films.

  • ‘A Hero’

“A Hero,” by Iranian producer Asghar Farhadi, tells the story of Rahim, a traditional sign-maker imprisoned for an unpaid debt. During a two-day period of leave, he tries to convince his creditor to withdraw his complaint, but things do not go as planned.

  • ‘Costa Brava Lebanon’

Lebanese director Mounia Akl’s impassioned feature film debut is an eerie family drama set amid a raging climate crisis in near-future Lebanon.

  • ‘Hit the Road’

Iranian director Panah Panahi’s drama, which showed at the Cannes Film Festival, is all about the journey. It follows a chaotic family-of-four that goes on a road trip in a borrowed car.

  • ‘Memory Box’

The film, directed by Lebanese filmmakers Khalil Joreige and Joana Hadjithomas, covers three generations of women from 1980s war-ravaged Beirut to icy Montreal.

  • ‘The Sea Ahead’

Directed by Lebanese filmmaker Ely Dagher, “The Sea Ahead” is centered around a young woman’s return to Beirut after a number years living abroad.

  • ‘Ahed’s Knee’

The film, based on a true story, is about Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi, who went to prison after a video of her slapping an Israeli soldier went viral.
