MAKKAH, 2 May — The Interior Ministry has endorsed punishments recommended by the Ministry of Commerce for five Saudis who had employed expatriate overstayers in their commercial establishments, press reports said yesterday.

They have been fined a total of SR1 million. In addition, commercial registrations and licenses of their establishments have been canceled. They are also banned from resuming business activities for a period of five years.

The expatriate workers involved in the case will be deported after the employers settle their dues. They will not be allowed to enter the Kingdom again.

Meanwhile, Minister of Commerce Osama Faqeeh ordered shopkeepers to display a price list at a conspicuous location so that shoppers need not haggle with salesmen over the prices.

Concerned officials will inspect the shops to make sure that shopkeepers adhere to the instructions, the ministry said.
