JEDDAH, 4 May — The Lahore City Cricket Assocation will honor former Test cricketer and chairman of Pakistan selection committee Salahuddin Ahmad ‘Sallu’ at a function in Lahore on Tuesday, May 8.

According to information available here, the LCCA is organizing the function in appreciation of Sallu’s long-standing services to Pakistan cricket both as a player and selector/administrator.

Sallu was national selector nine times, an unprecedented feat worth inclusion in the Guinness Book of Records, and chairman of the selection committee in 1999-2000.

An affable and likeable man, Sallu has always held national interest paramount and never compromised while choosing the national team, despite pressures from various quarters. On one occasion, when official interference resulted in a non-deserving player being selected, Sallu preferred to resign from the national selection committee rather than becoming a party to it.

Sallu was also chief selector of the Karachi City Cricket Association and during this period Karachi won the national title a record number of times.

According to a press release from the LCCA, the function to honor Sallu will be held at the Pearl Continental Hotel. Leading sportsmen, past and present cricketers and officials will attend the function.

Lt. Gen. Tauqir Zia, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board will be the chief guest. A music concert will also be held on the occasion at which top artists like Junaid Jamshed will perform.
