WASHINGTON — Wendy J. Chamberlain, a former director for counterterrorism affairs at the National Security Council and currently principal deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, is due to be nominated as the next US ambassador to Pakistan. If her nomination is confirmed, she will become America’s first woman ambassador to Pakistan, which, in turn, is also represented by a woman envoy here, Dr. Maleeha Lodhi. Chamberlain will succeed William Milam, who was appointed as ambassador to Islamabad by the Clinton administration. Chamberlain has been at her current post in the Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau since 1999 and has been interacting with Pakistan officials.
