RIYADH, 2 June — The traffic department has authorized a courier service company to accept applications from Saudis and expatriates for various services. SNAS Worldwide Express will receive applications for renewal of driving license and registration card, transfer of car ownership and exchange of old number plates, and will take them to the concerned traffic office for processing.
“The SNAS Worldwide Express has launched this novel service ... in association with Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate for Traffic,” a company official said yesterday.
“This new arrangement will allow customers to request the services, previously available only at the traffic offices, directly through a designated SNAS Express Center,” he added.
SNAS has made arrangements to process the applications within 24 hours. A SNAS brochure released on the occasion said the new service would ensure improved services for individuals and companies while minimizing the role of middlemen and general service agents.
SNAS will charge SR35 per document. The SNAS official said the move would reduce overcrowding at the traffic department offices.
According to a study, there is an average of 1.7 cars per family in the Kingdom.
A substantial number of drivers on Saudi roads do not possess valid driving licenses. Some 16 percent of drivers involved in traffic accidents did not possess driving licenses, according to statistics released by the traffic department.
