JEDDAH, 9 June — A boy was found dead inside a six-meter-deep pond at a deserted housing complex south of Jeddah.
Preliminary investigations showed the boy died while playing in the pond with his friends, Col. Muhammad Al-Ghamdi, director of Civil Defense, told Arab News.
The pond was sunk by a Chadian worker to supply water to apartments in the neighborhood.
The boy’s father has waived legal claims against the expatriate.
Al-Ghamdi said the Chadian was using the pond illegally to sell water and employed children.
