ISLAMABAD, 17 June — Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan welcomed the military government’s move to make peace with India, but said Gen. Pervez Musharraf had no need to go into brainstorming sessions with politicians prior to his India visit.
Imran said the Indo-Pak summit should focus on Kashmir as it was the core issue and the main obstacle in the improvement of relations between the two countries.
Imran said meetings with politicians were unnecessary as no government or leader can deviate from the basic stand on Kashmir.
The Tehrik-e-Insaf chief criticized donor agencies for dictating terms and pushing Pakistan into a debt trap.
He threatened to launch an agitation campaign against the IMF and World Bank.
He said the ill-conceived policies of the government had been leading the country toward a quagmire.
The depreciation of rupee, he said, had been a windfall for opportunists who instead of investing money are turning it into dollars.
“It’s regrettable because it contributed to the deterioration of the situation,” Imran said.
