Water supply to ritual sites discussed

JEDDAH, 23 January — The Water and Sewage Department will supply 11 million cubic meters of drinking water in the upcoming Haj season and 11 maintenance and operation centers for distribution of water are being constructed at the holy sites, Abdul Rahman Al-Aqla, acting secretary of the Central Haj Committee, said after a meeting of the committee with Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed in the chair yesterday. A total of 1,390 engineers and technical personnel will undertake the washing, cleaning and sterilization of networks and toilets with the help of 3,370 machines and vehicles, he said. The Health Ministry has recruited a 12,500-strong cadre including doctors and medical workers. It has also geared up a fleet of 160 ambulances for the season. All the hospitals in Makkah and the holy sites are also equipped with required medical apparatus and additional beds. (A.A. Ghazzawi)
