Businessmen, aid groups share charity awards

DAMMAM, 8 February — Prince Muhammad ibn Fahd, governor of the Eastern Province, distributed awards for charity, named after him, to 17 businessmen and organizations during a function at the governorate. They were recognized for their work in helping under-privileged members of society.


Prince Muhammad said the aim of the awards was to encourage others to come forward and contribute to the charitable works. He said Islam was the guiding factor and the religion recommended charity for the needy.


Prince Muhammad congratulated the winners and hoped that they would continue their efforts in the noble task. Justice Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh, who was the guest of honor at the function, praised efforts undertaken by Prince Muhammad in promoting charity work in the province.


Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ali Al-Namlah, congratulating the winners, said:“They have set an example and I am sure many will follow them.”


There were several categories of award. In the businessmen category the first prize went to Ali Majdouie of Al-Majdouie Group of Companies, while the second prize was shared by Abdul Razzaq Qanbar and Al-Babtain family. The third prize was shared by Muhammad Al-Farraj and Abdullah Al-Nuaim.


Nominations for the prize were made by individuals, embassies and organizations in the Kingdom and abroad. The prizes consisted of a plaque and citation. Abdullah Al-Kadi, secretary-general of the award committee, said names of the winners will be publicized in print as well as electronic media.  — Saeed Haider
