MAKKAH, 23 February — Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed has approved the operation plans of the Water and Sewage Department for this year's Haj.
The plan includes the supply of 11 million cubic meters of water to the holy sites and Makkah. All the water tanks in the holy sites and Makkah, which are divided into seven divisions with special attention on the area surrounding the Haram Mosque, have been filled in advance.
Five major pumping stations are working on a round-the-clock basis in three shifts. The booster pumps and huge water storage tanks will also be operating 24 hours a day.
The three water filling stations for tanker trucks at Kudai, Muasim and Arafat have a daily capacity to fill 33,300 cubic meters of water in 3,000 tankers. The filling stations, which have been working 12 hours a day to date, will work 16 hours effective from tomorrow till March 10. Three thousand employees of the WSD and other companies are working to operate and maintain the supply system for the current Haj season.
The integrated sewage services commissioned by the plan includes networks with pipelines to carry and dispose sewage. Also included will be pumping and booster stations, inspection points, and the main treatment plant at Al-Akashiyah in addition to the oxidizing basin at Al-Aziziyah. There is also a 54 member technical team to monitor all activities of the network for repairs and maintenance while 224 workers on several teams are deployed to guarantee the smooth functioning of the networks.
The integrated plans for the operation of the networks are in place at the holy sites of Muzdalifa and Arafat.
A main committee has been set up to handle any emergency under the chairmanship of the acting director general of WSD of Makkah region. (SPA)
