New regional advisory councils OK’d

JEDDAH, 25 June — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd yesterday endorsed the appointment of new advisory council members for the Kingdom’s 13 regions.


The members, proposed by Interior Minister Prince Naif, are appointed for a four-year term.


King Fahd established the regional councils in 1993 as part of his political and administrative reforms that also saw the formation of the consultative Shoura Council.


The Shoura Council as well as the regional councils give the Saudis greater say in running the country’s affairs. Their members represent the brass of society including technocrats, academics, economists and businessmen.


The Council for the Riyadh Region includes prominent personalities like Muhammad ibn Abdullah Al-Adwan, Dr. Othman ibn Muhammad Al-Omar, Abdurrahman ibn Abdullah Al-Mazrue and Ahmad ibn Hamad Al-Mazyed.


The Makkah council includes prominent businessmen like Walid ibn Ahmad Al-Juffali, Abdullah ibn Ahmad Zainal, Marae ibn Muhammad Bin Mahfouz and Adel ibn Abdullah Al-Kaaki.


The Madinah Council comprises well-known names like Dr. Adel ibn Ahmad Bushnak, Dr. Khaleel ibn Abdul Fattah Kurdi and Abdul Qader ibn Othman Hafez.


The council for the Eastern Province includes Bakr ibn Ahmad Baghdadi, Khaled ibn Suleiman Al-Olayan, Abdul Aziz ibn Rashid Al-Rashid, Ali ibn Ibrahim Al-Majdoue, Abdul Aziz ibn Ali Kanoo and Ali ibn Hussein Al-Mulla.


Among the Asir council members are Ibrahim ibn Abdullah Al-Ghammaz, Saleh ibn Hussein Qadah, Mansour ibn Abdul Rahman Al-Qahtani, Abdullah ibn Ali Aseery, and Dr. Saeed Obeid.
