JEDDAH, 24 July — Mayor of Jeddah Abdullah Al-Muallami inaugurated last night a cultural week that will highlight the talent and capability of the city’s youths in different fields of art and technology. The cultural week is organized by the Jeddah Youth Hostels (JYH).
“We can make things cheaper than what’s available in the market,” was the theme of technological exhibits demonstrated to the chief guest during his tour of the exhibition. The launching ceremony was held at the Art Center of well-known Saudi photographer Khalid Khidr.
Explaining the features of some of the electrical and electronic exhibits was Waleed Rajih of JYH, which has organized the week in cooperation with the House of Artists and Khidr.
The mayor, who was visibly impressed by more than 40 photographs by Khidr at the gallery, told Arab News: “I’m delighted to visit this gallery and have enjoyed the exhibits which give a glimpse of the rich experience and artistic creativity of our talented youths. Such exhibitions could provide a greater opportunity for our budding and accomplished youths, especially artists.”
Khidr’s photographs include mostly those of the Kingdom’s royal family and holy sites of Makkah and Madinah shot over a period of 25 years. Photographs of Makkah and Madinah over they years are on show. Other photographs show the phenomenal developments of the Kingdom, its cities in particular.
The mayor, who was greeted at the venue with folk music by a group of youths, cut the ribbon to mark the opening. A large number of officials from the Jeddah Municipality, aside from members of the JYC and the House of Artists, were present.
