Youth jumps to his death off causeway

JEDDAH, 15 August — The search and rescue team of the border guards in the Eastern Province found the body of a Saudi who jumped from the King Fahd Causeway that links the Kingdom with Bahrain, Al-Bilad reported yesterday.


The Arabic daily said the body was found Monday morning 25 kilometers from the place he jumped from three days ago for unknown reasons.


The border guards used divers and eight boats in the search operation.


The Saudi youth stopped his car at the high point of the causeway, which stands 15 meters above sea level, before jumping into the deep waters.


In Jizan, an unidentified person committed suicide after shooting one man to death and injuring another, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported yesterday.


Ahmad Al-Kalbi, a Yemeni, who was injured by the killer, said the man attacked him while he was fetching water from a well.


“The man, who I’d never seen before, fired at me,” the bemused Yemeni related.


Meanwhile, a snake has helped the police arrest a 22-year-old Yemeni infiltrator, Al-Bilad newspaper reported yesterday.


It said the snake bit Hasan Abdullah Balghaith, the Yemeni, while he was crossing the border into the Kingdom on foot.


Police took the youth to the Mikhwat General Hospital for treatment before handing him over to the deportation department.
