JEDDAH, 19 August — Agents of McDonald’s in Saudi Arabia has denied rumors circulating through mobile text messages during the past two days that the fast-food chain’s mother company has allocated a day’s revenue in a number of outlets outside the Arab world to support Israel.
“McDonald’s have allocated the revenue of Saturday’s sales for Israel...Pls. spread the message,” the text messages received in both Arabic and English said.
Ehab Qenaidy, marketing manager of Reza Food Services Company, the agent of the American company in the Kingdom’s Western Province, dubbed the claim as baseless. He said his company had not heard about such a move.
Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, he said his company launched a month-long campaign last Ramadan allocating SR1 from each meal of its sales during the holy month to children’s hospitals in Palestine.
