JEDDAH, 23 August  — Muhammad Javid, the Pakistani who allegedly stabbed to death Asif Hussein, his work colleague, on Sunday, has reportedly admitted that he killed the man in an argument over a SR5,000 loan he gave the victim six months ago, Okaz daily said yesterday.

Both Javid and Hussein worked at a household repair shop under the same sponsor. Hussein was found dead in front of a building on Prince Miteb (Arbaeen) Street, Jeddah.

Informed sources said the incident started with a verbal exchange, as Javid had asked Hussein to pay back the debt.

“Hussein refused to pay and insisted that police settle the matter,” the killer said in a confession recorded by judicial authorities.

“I took a knife with me into the shop and stabbed Hussein twice. When he tried to run away, I followed him and continued to stab him in various parts of his body until he fell dead at the entrance of a nearby building,” Javid is reported to have said.

Javid then threw the knife over a wall located to the north of their shop and went to his house to change his clothing, which was stained with blood.

The police launched a manhunt after they were informed about the murder by Abdul Fattah Saeed, an employee at a real estate office near the maintenance shop.

Abdul Ghani Akbar, the security guard at the building, knew both the victim and his alleged murderer.

He said he could not believe his eyes when he saw Hussein lying in a pool of blood.

Before going to mosque that day, the guard had heard the two men quarreling about financial matters.

When he returned from the mosque, he found the dead body.
