DHAHRAN, 17 September — In a daring broad daylight hold-up, a gunman robbed Abdul Latif Jameel & Co.’s Lexus showroom here yesterday. The police are investigating the case.
According to the showroom staff, a man of Arab origin, speculated to be a Saudi national, entered the showroom just like any other customer around 9:30 a.m. and headed toward the cash counter. A few minutes later, a loud noise shocked the staff as well as customers present in the showroom.
“I first thought that some glass had broken or something heavy had fallen down on the floor as I am not familiar with the sound of gun shots,” said a sales executive at the showroom. However, a few employees realized that it was a gunshot and came from the cashier’s cabin.
They rushed to his seat and found a man aiming a gun at the cashier. When he saw the employees he threatened them to back off, otherwise he would shoot them dead. The harassed employees retreated.
In the meantime, the gunman took all the cash from the cashier and made his way out.
Fortunately for the showroom, there was only SR3,400 cash, as takings had already been deposited in the bank.
