M.J.Akbar to speak on US attacks

RIYADH, 10 October — The editor-in-chief and managing director of “Asian Age”, a leading English daily, M.J. Akbar, will speak on “Implications of the terrorist attacks in the United States — the Indian perspective” at the Indian Embassy auditorium on Oct. 19. Akbar is arriving here on a short visit to the Kingdom during which he will perform Umrah and speak as the chief guest at the Sir Syed Day being organized by the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association.

According to Sunita Mainee Ahmad, wife of Indian Ambassador Talmiz Ahmad, the lecture is being organized by Indian Women’s Forum under the patronage of the embassy. Akbar, a well-known and widely read Indian journalist, is the author of several books, including “India — The Siege Within”, “Challenges to a Nation’s Unity” and “Riot after Riot”.

The books have been acclaimed by leading national and international critics for Akbar’s in-depth analysis of the Indian political scene, his mastery of the English language and, above all, his journalistic instinct for the vivid and revealing detail.
