JEDDAH, 9 November — Local favorites Al Ahli defeated visitors Al Nasr from Riyadh 2-1 in the King’s Cup soccer league here at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium yesterday.

The first half saw both teams trying to settle down and the few attacks strung out by the rival teams failed to break the goalless deadlock.

The second half, however, proved a different story. With both teams showing aggression and precision in passing the match gained an added zip.

Al Nasr’s Abdul Aziz Al Janoubi brought the crowd to its feet when he struck true in the 58th minute.

That goal spurred the Ahli and in the 66th minute the sustained Ahli attack paid dividends. Obaid Al Dossary latched on to a defense-splitting center, ran in and slotted home neatly to restore parity.

Then in the 78th minute, Nasr conceded a needless penalty and Ahli’s Sa’ad Al Dossary stepped up to the spot to clinch the match with a clinical strike to the corner of the net.
