Pickpockets arrested inside Haram

MAKKAH, 29 November — Police have caught 10 pickpockets red-handed. They admitted to stealing documents such as passports, residence permits, ID cards or other valuables from pilgrims praying at the Grand Mosque during the past several days. Brig. Jaser Al-Assaf, commander of the Haram police, said that plainclothes police have been posted at various locations to observe attempts aimed at stealing from pilgrims. There are also cameras installed at different points to detect criminal acts. —

Police bust burglary gang

ABHA — Police in Khamis Mushayt busted a gang of robbers specializing in breaking into commercial centers and shops. The three-member gang is thought to be responsible for several other thefts reported in recent weeks in Abha and Khamis Mushayt. The police arrested the gang after obtaining information about their operations and then ambushing them as they committed a crime. (AN)
