JEDDAH, 15 December — The World Assembly of Muslim Youth yesterday said it sent SR34.7 million worth of relief materials to the war victims in Afghanistan over the past six weeks and is planning more assistance in the coming days. WAMY Assistant Secretary-General Dr. Abdul Wahab Wali said they are dispatching relief supplies including food, shelter and medicines on weekly basis. The last shipment marking the sixth week since WAMY started its relief program in the wake of recent developments in Afghanistan was made up of 12 containers loaded with food, drugs, clothes, tents and blankets. A nationwide campaign to attract donations for the Afghan people has been going on since the start of the fasting months of Ramadan. Charity organizations have set up boxes outside many mosques in Jeddah to receive cash donations with imams urging worshipers to assist their Afghan brethren.
