Laguna Strikers capture top award

RIYADH, 28 December — The prolific Rod Basilio unleashed one of his devastating forms to power the fancied Laguna Strikers bowling team to capture the top honors on the 8th week of the SkyFreight Forwarders/OFWBR "Pabongahan" Inter-Province Bowling League at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Alleys.

Basilio’s brilliant display of games in last week’s action impressed his fellow members by displaying his versatility on lanes 5 and 6. In his first attempt, he scored 159, but increased his output in the second game by scoring a game-high of 249 wherein he converted eight consecutive strikes at the last frame. For his feat, Basilio won a Giordano sports jacket, a 20 kgs of Seafreight cargo voucher through the courtesy of the SkyFreight and gift items donated by the OFWBR. Basilio ignited 183 and 180 in the remaining two games to collect 847 total output.

With Basilio’s extraordinary game of bowling, he powered the Laguna Strikers bowling captained by Rolly Manalang to capture the back-to-back Team of the Week title by garnering a towering 24 big points. Extending splendid support to Basilio was the heroics of Manalang who contributed a four game series of 776. Cas Encilla and Romy Matic dazzled to contribute a separate two game series of 387 and 362. Joe Concepcion and the ever-fading Dante "cheeney" Prado added a series of 346 and 317 in two outings.

Despite the absence of the Bicol Express’ Besa II team captain, Rizal Dellosa, the Bicol Express recorded a 19 ˆ8 victory over the Calabarzon. Rollie Cleofe and Ferdie Ramos lifted the Bicol Express astounding win against the Calabarzon by carding a series of 799 and 759 in four matches. Ed Sesperes and Henry Sonias sparkled a separate series of 557 and 540. Toffee San Jose toppled a series of 496 in four games.

Joel Alegre, who missed to win the Bowler of the Week title from Rod Basilio by merely nine points led the Calabarzon by pumping-in a series of 838 in four games. Ely Baraquiel came-in next to Alegre by posting a four game series of 709. Jimmy Ocampo snatched 616 points in four outings while Rex Paredes and Bobby Dajulan submitted a series of 535 and 492, respectively.

The MLICB ABB Mixed Stars mentored by Mon Teodoro sealed 19 points against the bye-team, the Unicap Pampanga. Topscoring in the ABB Mixed Stars is the tandem of Larry Baleros and Jun Bago who posted a separate four game series of 738 and 714. Gerry Signey rolled a series of 513 in four sets while Atoi Ramos and Teodoro poured a series of 374 and 358 in two games.

The defending champion and the current league leader, the Pangasinan Strikers of Joey Maningas defeated the Luzvimin Pin Busters (15-2). Wilson Bacala led in the Pangasinan by submitting a four game series of 769. Jojo Demetrio sizzled to score a series of 716 in four matches. Phol Grepo had 662 series in four games and Turki Al-Essa downed 621 pinfalls. Pep Maghinay and Yuli Braganza registered a series of 369 and 338 in two games.

Little-known Ed Maduro was at the forefront in the Luzvimin Pin Busters with a series of 714. Bher del Rosario and Ed Dalisay shot a series of 670 and 638 in four outings. Hanibal Geronimo rolled a series of 619 in four games.

The Olongapo, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Laguna (Opnel) squad walloped the Metro Five Stars (11-2). Jun "wonder boy" Malana of the Opnel was at the helm with a series of 705 in four games. Reden Tulabut and Rolly Amis followed by posting a series of 681 and 652 in four sets while Atoy Malubay and Larry Mondoy scored a series of 524 and 470 in three games. Titlist Neil Domingo was on top in the Metro Five Stars with a four game series of 771. Faraj and Glenn Espiritu seared the lanes to score a series of 643 and 642 in four sets. Edwin Bathan submitted a series of 598.

The Pampanga Dragons recorded impressive wins against the Vision 2 (10 ˆ 2) and leading scorer in the Pampanga was Rey Lansang with 675, followed by Boy Catu (667), Noli Mendoza (616) and Roger Bautista (616). Southpaw Frank Ranera rolled 597 series in four matches.

The Vision 2 playing with two blind players, saw Mar Samson topscored with 755 series. Edu Quizon and Remy Pantaleon downed a series of 634 and 615.
