RIYADH, 28 December — Pep Maghinay carded a blistering 1222 pinfalls, with an average of 203 after the six games in the finals clinched the Payanigan one-day title organized by the Overseas Filipino Workers Bowlers of Riyadh (OFWBR) at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center.
After the first game, Maghinay rolled a game high of 255 in the first game to place second behind Class D player, Ben Carriaga who tallied a handicap score of 296. After the second and third games, Maghinay fell to third position with 437 series. In the remaining three games, Maghinay’s dazzling performance took the lead from fellow Joe Concepcion and Carriaga by posting a total six game series scratch of 1222 points to romp away with the title. Joe Concepcion with 1175 series submitted in six games placed second. The veteran Jimmy Medina beat Larry Mondoy by one-mark at the homestretch to secure the third position. Mondoy settled for fourth position with 1158.
Grabbing the fifth and sixth positions, respectively are Dante Prado and Neil Domingo who carded a separate six-game series of 1140 and 1120.
Ben Carriaga who lost the opportunity of winning the title secured the seventh position with 1092 points. The veteran Art Palustre landed in eight position with a series scratch of 1084 in six matches. On ninth and tenth positions are Reden Tulabut and Yusuf Fernandez who toppled a separate series of 1083 and 1073 in six games, respectively. The champion and runners-up received cash prize and gift items donated by Joseph Magdalena, Operation Manager of the Pinoy Supermarket.
Remaining top 20: American Eddie Bonner, Rolly Manalang, AJ Bonifacio, Benjie Bangug, Vher de Castro, Clem Salazar, Ric Singson, Ed Sy, Henry Agustin, Alvin Reyes and Junises Bation.
Meanwhile, the Year 2002 OFWBR One-Day Bowling Tournament in cooperation with the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Centre is scheduled to start from Jan. 3, 2002 at 7:30 in the evening at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center. The possible sponsor of the tournament is the Trans Middle East Electronics and Home Appliances, the sole distributor of OMNIA electronics and home appliances in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its general manager, Atah. Registration fee is SR100 for six-game series handicap. The Top 6 will advance to the Stepladder match via knockout system. The event is open for men and female bowlers.
