DAMMAM, 13 January — Yesterday morning when Mak, a passenger waiting to board a flight to Riyadh at King Fahd International Airport, Dammam, ordered coffee at Abul Jadayel Catering, he got more than he had bargained for.
A dead cockroach was floating in his cup!
"I drank more than half the cup before I spotted that dead roach in my coffee. It was the most disgusting experience I’ve ever had and that’s why I am reporting it to Arab News. I hope the health department will look into the matter," Mak, an American expatriate, told Arab News over the phone.
A number of customers waiting to be served bolted out of the coffee shop, wondering aloud whether they too might have unwittingly swallowed a ghastly insect.
Mak, who works in Dammam, was taking the 7 a.m. flight to Riyadh on company business. He said that since the airport was over 75 km from his house, he usually had coffee at the airport.
When Mak tried to register a complaint, he was told that the manager would not arrive in until 9 a.m.
"I will probably not dare to step into an airport cafeteria again for a long, long time. I feel like throwing up every time I think about the experience," he said.
