6 films to screen at Sharjah Film Platform

The UAE’s Sharjah Film Platform is returning for its fifth edition from Oct. 21 to 30, screening critically acclaimed films from around the world.

  • ‘A Night of Knowing Nothing’

    Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia’s documentary, about a university student who writes letters to her estranged lover, won the Golden Eye award at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

  • ‘Memoria’

    Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s film tells the story of a Scottish woman who, while traveling in Colombia, begins experiencing a mysterious sensory syndrome.

  • ‘The Silence of the Palace’

    Set in the 1960s, Tunisian film director Moufida Tlatli’s 1994 film focuses on a singer who visits the palace where her mother was once employed.

  • ‘Season of Men’

    This film, also by Tlatli, is about a woman and her two daughters who return to a female community on an island in Tunis, where her husband works.

  • ‘Nadia et Sarra’

    Also directed by Tlatli, who is the filmmaker in focus for this year’s edition of Sharjah Film Platform, this film highlights the relationships between women.

  • ‘Amreeka’

    The 2009 film, by director Cherien Dabis, tells the story of a Palestinian single mother and her son who are harassed by Israeli soldiers.
