IIS overwhelm BIS (English) in thriller

RIYADH, 25 January — International Indian School Riyadh U-17 team scored a thrilling one run victory over Bangladesh International School (ES) in Arab News, Power Horse inter-school tournament match at RCA-2 grounds.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, IISR started badly losing their opener Salman and one-down batsman Razzak with only 5 runs on the board. Faizullah and Adnan played sensibly and added 51 runs for the third wicket partnership. Faizullah made 21 and Adnan scored 22. After Faizullah’s exit wickets fell at regular intervals and IISR lost 6 wickets with only 74 runs on board. IISR’s lower order batsmen Ranjith and Lohit steadied the innings, batted very well and hammered the BIS (ES) bowlers to all parts of the ground during their unbeaten partnership of 81 runs. Ranjith remained not out on 50 with 4 hits to the fence while Lohit contributed unbeaten 32. IISR finished there stipulated 20 overs scoring 177 for 7. For BIS Saad and Iftikhar took 2 wickets each giving away 27 and 19 runs. Alvi, Osama and Safwaat took one wicket each conceding 23, 11 and 14 runs.

Chasing the target BIS (ES) too started badly losing both the openers with 6 runs on the board.

In U-14 match between British School Riyadh (BSR) and Bangladesh International School (ES), BSR clinched a narrow 6 runs victory at RCA-3 grounds. Batting first BSR openers Nauroze Brohi and Ashan Hameed started well and were involved in 36 runs opening partnership. Nouroze made 17 runs while Ashan made 18.

After the fall of Nauroze’s wicket, Alex Deuchar took charge and played a fine innings of 46 with 4 hits to the fence. He along with Sajjan Hassan took the BSR score to 140 for 5 in allotted 20 overs. Sajjan Hassan contributed 31 runs to the total. Omer, Muntasir, Safat, Nidal and Imran took one wicket each giving away 23, 29, 21, 30, 20 runs, respectively.

Chasing the target, BIS (ES) started badly, losing six wickets for just 15 runs. Omer and Jonathan played well and halted the slide.

Both were involved in 94 run partnership for the seventh wicket. Omer played a gem of innings and scored 65 runs while Jonathan contributed 15 runs. For BSR Nauroze Brohi and Ahsan Hameed bowled well.
