DHUBA, 26 January — One person was killed and 47 others were injured — 10 of them seriously — when a bus carrying 48 Egyptian passengers overturned while they were traveling from the northern Saudi port of Dhuba to Makkah.
Informed sources told Arab News that the accident occurred when the driver of the bus lost control while trying to avoid a pothole on the road.
The injured were immediately taken to the Dhuba General Hospital by Saudi Red Crescent Society. The 30-bed hospital had to make special arrangements to receive the accident victims.
Dr. Ali Al-Qahtani, health director in Tabuk, directed the authorities to send a first-aid team to support the hospital which had called in 24 doctors and 34 nurses from their residences on special duty.
Sources said some of the accident victims were shifted to the King Khaled Hospital in Tabuk, located about 200 kilometers from Dhuba.
In another accident, a Saudi youth died and his two brothers were injured when their car was hit from behind by another vehicle. The youth died at King Faisal Hospital in Taif.
