DAMMAM, 29 January — Following the advice of the Presidency of Civil Aviation, Kuwait Airways has stopped transporting passengers by road. The airline announced yesterday that all the passengers who were booked for land transport will now be carried on board Kuwait Airways flights.

The airline operates four flights a week from King Fahd International Airport here. The announcement added that each passenger will have to pay SR50 extra as airport tax on tickets already purchased.

Other airlines continued to transport passengers via King Fahd Causeway to board scheduled flights from Bahrain.

The PCA has issued a circular asking all the airlines to stop transporting passengers by road to neighboring countries to be flown out from there.

Qatar Airways’ plea was that they had not received any communication in this regard until now, while Gulf Air maintains that it has opened a terminal for land transport and was not violating any agreement. Industry sources say the mechanism does not provide any legal status to Gulf Air land operations and it too will have to stop the practice.
