JEDDAH, 1 February — Winners of the Gulf Cup safety contest, organized as part of the 15th Arabian Gulf Cup football tournament which ended with a resounding victory for the Kingdom in Riyadh on Wednesday night, has been announced. The program, organized by a leading multinational company, featured over 1,000 students from various pubic high schools throughout Riyadh.
Participants were tested on their knowledge of a number of safety procedures, such as what to do in case of a fire in the home, how to assist a victim of choking, and various questions on driver’s safety. The goal of the contest was to educate and inform the students while raising their awareness of the importance of following safety procedures. All participants received Gulf Cup memorabilia while winners received match day tickets to superior class seats at King Fahd International Stadium. "As presenting sponsor for the 15th Arabian Gulf Cup, we thought this program was a wonderful opportunity for us to demonstrate the importance of commitment our corporation places on safety," said Daniel Nelson, chairman and CEO of ExxonMobil Saudi Arabia that sponsored, developed and administered the contest as part of its community relations program.
"Linking football and safety was a natural fit and a great chance to combine one community passion with what we hope will become another." Mamdoh Al-Mirdas, deputy headmaster of Al-Riyadh Secondary School, said: "This competition has accomplished three very important things - it has reminded our students that safety is always important both to them and their community, provided them with something to look forward to after this hectic exam period is over, and demonstrated to them that large companies care about the community."
