Pirated CDs, cassettes seized

JEDDAH, 3 February — The Information Ministry has stepped up its campaign against violators of copyright regulations. According to a report published by the ministry, the ministry has imposed SR3.32 million in fines on violators, closed down 31 shops and confiscated 222 pieces of equipment. It also destroyed 3.19 million copies of pirated CDs, and audio and video cassettes. The report said the ministry was preparing a plan to enhance awareness on the need to protect copyrights.
