ALKHOBAR, 5 March — An Indian, whose body was discovered near Alkhobar Corniche on Sunday, died by drowning according to police.
Abdul Rahman Shareef, 26, worked for a local company and was married only last year. He hailed from Kasargode, in the southern Indian state of Kerala.
According to a colleague, Shareef left his room Saturday evening, saying that he was going to Dammam. “We didn’t see him again,” he said.
“There was no reason for him to commit suicide and since the body was found fully clothed there is no possibility that he drowned while swimming,” he added.
The authorities are not ruling out suicide.
The body was discovered at Alkhobar beach by a Saudi citizen, who immediately alerted the police.
The police recovered his passport from his pocket, which carried an exit and re-entry visa. Friends confirmed that he was scheduled to fly to India on March 7.
