RIYADH, 18 March — A 35-year-old Sri Lankan driver working for a Saudi family was stabbed to death by his compatriot in front of an office of the Presidency of Girls’ Education in Riyadh last Saturday, following a dispute.
Witnesses said police cordoned off the area soon after the incident and questioned the Saudi guard at the PGE office.
The alleged killer, who is also a driver, escaped and the police are still searching for him. They have the plate number of his car.
Police identified the victim as A. Sridaran, a Hindu, and the killer as only Muhammad. According to press reports, the killer informed his Saudi sponsor about the conflict and the female sponsor of the victim said the man had been working for her for four years and had never caused any problem.
The sponsor of the killer, also a female, said she had informed the police that her driver was threatening the other driver. However, the police — according to Al-Watan — told her to call back the next day.
Witnesses said the victim had received at least five stabs in different parts of his body.
Other drivers who know the two Sri Lankans — one a Hindu, the other a Muslim — said the two had quarreled several times before.
