RIYADH, 12 April — The Pakistan International School (Urdu Section) lifted the U-17 group trophy by beating Manaret Al-Riyadh by 67runs while in Under-14 group PIS (ES) triumphed over PIS (US) by 18 runs in the finals of Arab News/Power Horse inter-school cricket tournament at RCA grounds.
In U-17 group final, PIS (US) batted fist scored scored a mammoth 207 for 3 in their stipulated 20 overs against Manaret Al-Riyadh. Nasir Ali Khan and Farrukh were in good form as both scored 49 each while skipper Jibreel Rana contributed 36 to the total.
Chasing a difficult target Manaret Al-Riyadh started badly and were all out for 140. Saad Osman and Fahad was the only batsmen to offer some resistance to Nasir Ali Khan’s guile and contributed 30 and 36 runs respectively to Manaret Al-Riyadh score. For PIS (US) Nasir Ali Khan grabbed 5 wickets while Jibreel Rana took 2 wickets and Farrukh caputred one wicket. Later, Nasir Ali Khan adjudged man-of-the-match for his brilliant all-round performance.
In U-14 group, PIS (ES) taking the strike first, scored 197 for the loss of 7 wickets in their stipulated 20 overs match against PIS (US). PIS (ES) started badly losing their opener Osama Harris early but Affan Khalid and Omer Khalid showed some resistance and scored 42 and 34 runs respectively.
Later, skipper Zain Tariq played a brilliant innings of 55 with three hits to the fence. Taimoor took 3 wickets for PIS (US) while Farrukh, Ali Waqar, Tufail and Omar Khalid took a wicket each. Chasing the target, PIS (US) started well with openers Amir and Ali Waqar chipping in with 30 and 49 runs respectively.
But the later batsman could not took advantage of the good opening stand as wickets fell at regular intervals and PIS (US) were restricted to 179 for 9. Osama Harris bowled superbly and bagged 5 wickets for PIS (ES). Affan Khalid took 2 wickets while Zain Tariq and Omar Khalid claimed a wicket each. Zain Tariq of PIS (ES) adjudged man-of-the-match.Austrian Ambassador Dr. Harald Wiesnar, Ahmed Al-Haroon, country manager Power Horse, Javid Hassan and Ghazanfar Ali Khan of Arab News gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up of the tournament in the prize distribution ceremony.
The following prizes were awarded by RCA in U-17 group:
Best Batsman – Jibreel Rana - PIS (US), Best Bowler – Abdullah Kamal – Manaret Al-Riyadh, Best All Rounder – Saad Osman – Manaret Al-Riyadh. Also, consolation prices were awarded to J. Lohit - IISR, Nasir Ali Khan - PIS(US) and Alvi - BIS(ES).
The following prizes were awarded by RCA in U-14 group:
Best Batsman – Affan Khalid – PIS (ES), Best Bowler — Osman – Al-Momin School, Best All Rounder — Omar Khalid – PIS(ES) Also, consolation prices were awarded to Shahzeb Saleem of Al-Momin School, Omar of BIS(ES) and Tufail Akhtar PIS (US).
